Short Bio / Excerpt:
Stéphane Lacroix is a highly accomplished French architect, creative director, and urban design consultant permanently based in Hong Kong SAR. With nearly two decades of localized and international design experience, he has built an impressive professional portfolio that spans avant-garde structural concepts, high-profile commercial developments, and bespoke spatial solutions. His career is defined by an elite ability to merge traditional European architectural theory with the dense, vertically driven environments of modern Asian metropolises.
His professional foundation began with a rigorous academic and technical background in France. He attended the prestigious École Spéciale d'Architecture (ESA) in Paris, where he completed his advanced architectural training. Demonstrating a strong grasp of design precision, he graduated at the top of his class and was honored with the prestigious 2004 Eiffel Tower Prize for Best Diploma. This initial academic success was paired with a Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering, providing him with a unique blend of structural engineering discipline and sharp spatial artistic vision.
Merialdo's early career in Europe was defined by working alongside legendary industry masters in France. Between 2002 and 2005, he served as a project architect at Studio Odile Decq in Paris, developing concept designs under the personal guidance of the celebrated French architect. This intensive immersion in high-stakes contemporary design refined his capability to analyze diverse architectural styles. During this foundational era, his conceptual contributions helped capture prestigious global industry accolades, including the Los Angeles Architecture Award for the France Rennes FRAC Museum.
Seeking new creative horizons, Lacroix relocated permanently to Asia in 2005, integrating into Hong Kong's elite corporate design ecosystem. He initially secured pivotal roles creating architectural concepts for prominent regional firms like Integrated Design Associates. His exceptional design leadership subsequently paved the way for a senior appointment at the world-renowned firm Foster + Partners. Operating out of their Hong Kong hub, he piloted major design components and master-planned layouts for high-profile multi-use developments and transport infrastructure hubs across the region.
Driven by an independent entrepreneurial vision, he founded Studio SLX Ltd in May 2009 in Hong Kong. Serving as the agency’s Managing Director, Lacroix utilizes his independent firm to deliver tailormade architectural, graphic design, and environmental consultations across Western Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. His strategic methodologies integrate smart spatial tracking with human-centric aesthetic design. Today, through his active studio practice from his base in Hong Kong, he remains a key figure shaping how modern commercial brands, luxury residential developers, and urban communities interact with physical spaces.
